Missing Ethernet port issues

My computer does not have an ethernet port connection. How can I connect to my modem's ethernet jack for a hard connection verses wifi?

Thank you for your message.

You can use a USB Ethernet adapter. Something like this http://amzn.to/2ASrQou should work fine.

Hey,

Does the use of adapter require presence of thunderbolt port on the laptop? @SreejithR

@twin28  No, you just need a regular USB port to use a USB Ethernet adapter, not a Thunderbolt or USB-C port.

@SreejithR  That is a USB 2.0 to 10/100 Ethernet adapter.  Here in the year 2020, it would make much more sense to recommend a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet adapter like this one, which is only a few dollars more.

EDIT: Just noticed that this thread was originally created in January 2018 and resurrected by another user.  Even in 2018, USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet adapters were commonplace though.

It would be nice the computer had more usb ports if it also does not have an ethernet port. Mine has only 1 usb port; if it stops working, it is almost useless.

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 7500 2n1 with a USB port and a wireless module.  I tried a USB to Ethernet adapter, but I could not connect to the Internet.   Can the 7500 2n1 use an Ethernet cable - or was my adapter not compatible.   Thank you in advance for your response.

In that case, you need a complete USB hub with an Ethernet port. With one USB port, you will have HDMI, Ethernet, and Type-C with Power share. This article here has mentioned some ethernet adapters with other solutions if laptop doesn't have ethernet port.
