Motherboard number
Greetings, Is there any way to determine the Motherboard number on my non working Studio 1558 without actually opening the computer up? Thanks in advance for all info.

There are really just two types of boards -- integrated or discrete video. And while one will fit in place of the other, the heatsink assembly required is different. Also, integrated video boards will run fine on a 65W power supply -- discrete needs 90W or 130W.

The only thing there is that it's an integrated-video board -- which would be this one:

If you really intend on repairing one of these, complete used systems are available on Ebay for as little as $30-50 -- this is a system entering its teenage years. I would hesitate to spend any more than that on the repair, as the system doesn't have much value. Also realize that any replacement parts will be of similar vintage to the system you have.

Thanks for the fast rerply. That one on Amazon is way out of my league. The ones I was looking at earlier on Ebay had several numbers with an @ after the G936P: i.e., @MB55, @MB98, @MB249. Those last numbers are the ones that threw me, as they are all different, but the one on Amazon doesn't have any of those last numbers.
