My Inspiron 5579 wont start up

Question

Hi,

My laptop is Inspiron 5579, I was working on it with no issues and suddenly it turned off and the battery level was above 30%. when Im trying to turned it on with battery or on power cable it's not working with zero LED and Zero sound.

what I have tried for now after reading several threads,

1- tried to unplug the battery out and press the power button for more than 1 minute, and then plug it in again. (No luck)

2- tried to unplug the battery out and press the power button for more than 1 minute, and then plug the power cable with battery unplugged. (No luck again)

3- tried to unplug the HD, RAM, Fan, and couple of Motherboard attached cables and wait for 15 mins. (Also no luck with that).

the strange thing happening with me is, when I tried to plug the power cable into the power input on the laptop; the green LED on the charger keeps turning OFF every time (while it's on before plug the cable into the laptop).

can anyone help me with that please?.

I found that I did not clarify the solution for my issue. The currupted chip name is AWVALG which is responsible to mange the voltage lines of 5 and 3.3 volts. I was looking for a replacement for the exact code in the internet and local suppliers but with no luck, lately I came to know that I should looking for AWV*** chip and not the exact code cause the last three codes are responsible for dates the manufacturer adds for I don't know purposes and all chips with the same first three codes the AWV will be good to use.

These piece of information I was hoping DELL can help me with but they did not provide unfortunately. Either they don't know such information or basically they don't want to so you have to change the whole motherboard.

You can find a lot of the AWV*** chips around the internet like ebay, Amazon, AliExpress and others.

The AC adapter's tip LED turning off indicates either a bad DC jack or a bad motherboard. The former is cheaper and easier to fix, and I would try that first.   .

Hi sir,

it might be the adapter and I wish if it is. however, im pretty sure that the battery is not empty and by using the battery only with no charger the laptop wont go up. does that mean the MB is corrupted?

If the battery still has charge, then the motherboard is probably bad.   .

Hi,

after all, it turned out that the AC adapter is good and the Power IC within the mother board is corrupted. the laptop now is at the maintenance shop and the power circuit was checked and found one ship (till now is malfunctioned) which is "AWValg". appreciate to let me know where I can find such replacement for this chip or for the whole power circuit online.

one thing to ask, can you please provide the power circuit blueprint for my Laptop.

You're not going to find a schematic for the board - these are not published.

Try one of the three big electronics suppliers (Digikey, Mouser or Newark Electronics). They may have a replacement. If they don't, you'll likely need to find someone selling an inexpensive mainboard for parts, where you can harvest the chip and swap it over (you will need access to a hot-air rework station to do the job - it's not one for a handheld soldering iron).

If you don't have the skills and equipment, a shop can probably do the job, but expect the labor charge to exceed the cost of a replacement board.

The only board that will fit is another Inspiron 5579 mainboard - nothing else.

my warranty ended in January 2020 and my "Dell Certified Refurbished" laptop got faulty in March, can Dell help me with my faulty motherboard to be under warranty?. actually I got the laptop and start working on it in July 2019, so on the ground it is being used less than 1 year.

sorry to ask you this but I have to, I'm really frustrated from the whole situation.

First of all I'm in Jordan, you don't have to assume that I'm in USA as my warranty says. Secondly I'm very frustrated from your support and from Dell in general, hence I already know what my next laptop vendor will not be for sure, I know exactly what my motherboard issue is and you are not helping me cause Dell wants me to change my motherboard or even to get a new one.

I only need one IC only one that may not cost me more than 20$ and you don't provide it though.

Maybe my warranty ends in January but I did not use my laptop more than 8 months, what an efficient one I got

Indeed, 5379 have the same shape and I'm pretty sure it's the same board. My question was what other boards that I can get the ship called "Awvalg ic power system" am focusing here on the ship and not the whole board as I don't think that Dell or others will change every single ship for every different models especially the closer one.

No one can answer this more than Dell itself.

No computer manufacturer does board-level repairs on individual chips. You've asked before, and if you absolutely know which chip -- and that it's the only chip -- is bad, you'll need to see what's available locally from electronics parts vendors. Many times, these chips are specific to the manufacturer. If you can't find one, then look for someone selling a board that has a good chip on it, and salvage the chip.

Otherwise, the only solution you'll get is what Dell has told you: replace the mainboard. Even many repair shops won't replace individual chips, because of the possibility that there's an underlying cause for the failure, or that the failure destroyed other components. It doesn't take very long before the labor cost to repair a board exceeds the cost of a replacement board.
