New Dell G7 keyboard back light timeout
Hi, I recently bought a Dell G7 7700 and I wonder how to change the keyboard back light timeout to stay on all the time, BIOS version is 1.1.1 and there is no "Keyboard Backlight Timeout on AC" option under the keyboard section as per the manual, can someone help me?

Fixed in BIOS 1.3 released on 9/14/2020.
You can now set different timeout values for battery power and plugged in.
Backlight always on is available. This feature was sorely missed and I am happy to own this laptop, especially now!
Thanks for listening to your customer feedback, DELL!

Not an option in the BIOS nor Control Panel as per images below:

I just got my G7 7700 today and the blue lighting worked on the keyboard and under the palm rest.
I ran Windows Update and Dell Command Update which updated the BIOS. Then it stopped working.
The options for the keyboard backlight aren't there. As illustrated in the screenshot above.
I have a Dell On Site tech coming to replace the keyboard. They suspect a hardware problem.
I would love to find a solution for this. Fingers Crossed!

Hi xXTheEpicOneXx,
Mine also arrived yesterday and I had a similar problem, after updating the Alienware Command Center and the BIOS I lost all lights and the FX function wasn't there, which I solved formatting my PC and reinstalling everything (manually downloading the last version from Dell website), the issue is AWCC doesn't have a "timeout" settings, which also is not included in this model BIOS as the old models.
I have control on effects and colours of lights via AWCC, but I don't have how to set the timeout (automatically set to 60s), which is really annoying, since all other manufacturers and brands have this function.
I received a message from support as per below:
"At this time we consider the system working as per design and the backlight times out will be automatically controlled by the Bios on your system.
Hopefully in the future we can release a different Bios version so users like you can modify this feature"
I'm sorry, but the feature is clearly missing from the BIOS/AWCC and the first step would be to recognise this issue Dell.

Hi,
I'm Prajesh. I have reviewed the case and sorry about the situation you had to go through. I have had this re checked with the BIOS simulator and ideally we should have an option of the keyboard backlight time there. Since it is not available, I will write to my product engineering team and have it reviewed further. I should have an update in the next 1 to 2 business days and will keep you posted as soon as I receive the update.

Hiu
Please let us know how this resolves !
I received my G7 7700 yesterday, and am exactly at the same place as your opening message. I went to the BIOS, no option available. And not a single setting anywhere to change this, be it in Windows 10 or in Alienware Command Center.
I very much agree with you that 'work as designed' is a totally lame answer here. They dropped the ball and don't seem to want to fix it. but this is an extremely annoying thing, and honestly, it should be a totally easy thing to setup in the control panel.
But I,ll take whatever solution offered, if it doesn't involve things like hours of disinstalling and reinstalling stuff
thanks

Wow, same problem. Just purchased this machine with all these keyboard lighting options, and the best setting I can find is to turn all the keyboard lighting off (dark) so it isn't constantly going on and off and driving me nuts. Dell, honestly, this is what you intended? Not a happy customer.

Same issue here. The BIOS and Alienware Command Center got updated yesterday (August 18th), but I see no option for changing the timeout period for the keyboard and led strip for the Dell G7 17 7700. Keyboard lights turn off after 60 seconds (or less) by default, which is absurd... and incredibly annoying. Considering that there was no mounting bracket nor screw in the M.2 slot 2 and that the thermals are appalling (CPU throttles in pretty much any game, hitting 94 to 99 Celsius) while that Optimal Gaming Performance button on the keyboard seems to do absolutely nothing... I can't say that this has been stellar Day 1 for the Dell G7.
