Reliability History has many appcrashes

I have just been taking a look at my machine's reliability history and since  w/c 07/12/22, application failures are recorded most weeks. Here are the latest collections. The message is that they basically stop working.

18/12/22 17:18 photosAp.exe
19/12/22 07:05 OneApp.IGCC.WInService.exe
19/12/22 11:07 explorer.exe
19/12/22 11:47 SystemSettings.exe
19/12/22 19:34 EXCEL.EXE
20/12/22 07:05 FirmwareTPNM.exe
22/12/22 09:13 svchost.exe_BDESVC
25/12/22 08:11 FirmwareTPNM.exe
26/12/22 18:02 Intel Graphics Command Center Service
01/01/23 07:47 FirmwareTPNM.exe

Not sure if these indicate an underlying problem or several problems.

Can anyone advise me on how to deal with these?

@Rockface  - Always include exact PC model and version of Windows in your posts.

You may want to try this:

  1. At desktop, open a CMD prompt window, Run as administrator

  2. At the prompt, type in: chkdsk c: /r and press Enter. Accept offer to run chkdsk at next boot and reboot PC. chkdsk will run before Windows loads so be patient. Look for any unfixed errors in the chkdsk log when you get back to desktop.

  3. Assuming no unfixed chkdsk errors,  at desktop, open a CMD prompt as in #1

  4. At the prompt, type in: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and press Enter. Be sure to include a space in front of each / and note any error messages when that's done.

  5. Assuming no unfixed errors in #2 or #4, at the CMD prompt, type in: sfc /scannow and press Enter. Be sure to include a space in front of the / and note any errors when that's done.

  6. Assuming no unfixed errors in #2, #4 or #5, reboot PC and check Reliability Monitor for several days to see if things have improved.

BTW: Have you scanned thoroughly for malware lately? Malwarebytes (free) is a good tool for this.

@Rockface  - Your latest image only shows dates up to 12-Jan-23. Is that last time you used this PC or last time you checked Reliability Monitor?

I'd just check the Reliability Monitor from time to time, unless you start having crashes or other problems again.  Follow-up action will depend on what app(s) cause crash(es), so there's no "plan ahead" action.

You can probably ignore the FirmwareTPM.exe errors. Lots of users are getting this one and it seems to be related to SupportAssist and/or Dell Update. If you uninstall or disable both of them, that error will go away. You'll have to decide if using SupportAssist/Dell Update is more useful for you than eliminating this error message, which apparently has no impact on PC function.

Hi @Rockface welcome to this free user-to-user discussion forum.

Applications can be recorded as stopped working just because they were manually closed. The system's overall stability index (the blue line) is assessed on a scale of 1 to 10. How to use Windows Reliability Monitor to identify software issues | Dell US.

Please include image of windows reliability history in your next message so that we can see what you see. Thank you.

Hello. And thank you for stepping in. I have had a quick look at the link to the article about the reliability History service and can see its purpose. I will read through it now.

As requested, I have used the snipping tool to take an image and attached it here. The ones that sparked my interest are those related to the system rather than the apps.

As always any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you

Rockface

Hello and my apologies. The website took some time to scan my machine, i assumed thats what its purpose was. My machine is an:

Inspiron 15 3511

Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 2.42 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.74 GB usable)

Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 22H2
OS build 22621.963
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22638.1000.0

I also have an SSD so I'm assuming all of those commands will be suitable.

My system is scanned by Norton 360 but I will sue Malwarebytes and perform the other tasks listed.

So I'll probably be in touch again nearer the end of the week.

@Rockface  -  What "website took some time to scan....machine"?  None of the commands I posted do anything on any website, but they all work when the boot drive (C:) is an SSD.

If you ran those commands, did you get any error messages, or were errors found and fixed, or no errors were found at all?

BTW: never post your Service Tag in an open forum like this (now removed by a moderator). Treat your Service Tag as personal/private info and only ever share it with a Dell employee, when they ask for it.

Hello again RoHe and thank you for your time and attention.

I have just looked at the posting you refer to and most of my reply is missing. Including the results of my scans. So I assume I do not need to post all that stuff ( reports and screenshots) and just tell you what has happened.

  • The Malwarebytes scan showed that no malicious items were detected.
  • The result of the chkdsk in the event log was "no problems. No further action is required."
  • The result of the DISM command is simply that the restore operation was completed successfully.
  • The result of the SFC command is that corrupt files were found and successfully repaired.

(To answer your first question and keep things calm - when I logged on for the first time the DELL website scanned to identify my system. I was just assuming this would be added to the ticket. I hope this explains my opening statement.)

Also, thank you for telling me about keeping the service tag secret - btw that is the first time I heard that.

So I will now monitor the reliability history for the next few days. Thanks again.

Good that Malwarebytes, chkdsk and DISM didn't find any serious issues, and sfc found/fixed issues with some OS files.  Hopefully that puts an end to the errors showing up in Reliability Monitor.

Post back and let us know if things have improved...

@Rockface  -That's good news!

Sometimes all it takes is running the commands I posted above to fix the errors shown in Reliability Monitor.

Keep us posted...

Had me confused there for a minute until I realized you use Day before Month in your settings.

I'm used to seeing Month first:1/11/23 vs your 11/01/23.

Keep up the good work!

Hello.

It looks like things are much better.

At this point the only thing i need to ask is if you think there is anything here i need to take action on. I recall that an earlier post contained advice on how to follow up on errors so i think I'll keep on monitoring it going forward. Unless you do think there is anything more i can do , shall i call it a day and come back if i see a problem?

Hi @RoHe thank you for your contribution in this thread.

This is an English speaking board for international users, not just those resident in the US. Dates can be 1/11/23 or 11/01/23 convention, as used at user's location.

Before starting change, create Restore Point.

To start diagnose and fix windows operating system, at Type here to search (on taskbar), type Command Prompt or Windows PowerShell and Run as Administrator. Either will accept requests to improve the system's overall stability index (the blue line) within Windows Reliability Monitor.

Restart (not Shut Down) to save change.

@crimsom  I'm fully aware that dates can be entered/displayed differently, depending on where the user is located.

The "Last Updated" date shown in the most recent image posted by @Rockface is 12/01/23 (12-Jan23) as I said, but that image was posted on 20/01/23 (20-Jan23), so I wanted to know if there was a more recent image of the Reliability Monitor because that last one was 8 days old when it was posted.
