It could be a bad SATA cable or the HDD is starting to fail. Boot the system and at the Dell splash screen start tapping F12. Run full system diagnostics paying special attention to the hard drive results.

what do you mean by 'starting to fail'.

since I don't know how to open up my laptop and check drive connections and cables, I updated Intel rst to version 15.0. .. after updating it, the drive didn't appear even after shutting down and rebooting. but after waiting for some time I reboot again and drive is there. so far drive didn't disappear again. I will update if the problem persists.

somebody sent me a private message and I failed to reply in time.

so, to anyone still wondering how to solve this problem...

just go to dell service center and get the cable connecting the hard drive to a chip  and also this chip.

there was nothing wrong with my hard drive.
