Some keys on the keyboard not working

Sometimes, the spacebar key, the n key, the b key and the 2 key on the numpad stop responding, but if I keep pressing them, they print a short string of characters (bbb for example for the b key) and then start working normally again for a short amount of time. I saw the other posts on the forum but I couldn't find anything that worked for me. I tried updating the keyboard drivers, reinstalling the keyboard drivers and restarting my computer.

Edit : the right Alt gr key is also not working sometimes.

This sounds like a hardware issue, you need to contact Tech support

Check if the keys are stuck on keyboard. Another step you can try is to check the keyboard functionality in safe mode and see if it exhibits the same behavior there as well.

  • Restart the computer.
  • Tap the F8 key on the keyboard during the boot process until you see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen.
  • Select “Safe Mode with Networking” from the menu using the arrow keys on the keyboard and then press the key.
  • Select the user account at the log in screen.
  • Try using your computer and see if the issue persists there.

In case of keyboard, you may also try using a USB keyboard and see if it works. If issue persists, remove the USB keyboard and use an Onscreen keyboard to see if the issue persists with that as well.

To use On screen keyboard:

  • Choose Start/Windows logo → Control Panel → Ease of Access → Ease of Access Center.
  • Click the Start On-Screen Keyboard button.
  • Test out the on-screen keyboard input in any application where you can enter text.
  • Click Options, select the Turn on numeric key pad check box, and then click OK.
  • Open a notepad and try typing on that by clicking on the keys of On screen keyboard.

To me, the WARRANTY is IRRELEVANT for a defective product part like this.  I got a card in the mail for a free repair on my 9 year old car.  The car company, stepping up to take responsibility for a defect.  Dell has not learned this lesson yet-- even though these forums are littered with people experiencing this problem.

DELL should be providing parts to do the repair.  I didn't break it-- THEY DID.

Well, that's up to you, if you want it fixed either contact Tech Support and send it your notebook for repair or purchase the replacement key and install them yourself. I personally find it much better to do these simple things myself rather than wait 2 or 3 weeks for the round trip to the Repair center. If you just wish to complain I suggest you go to the "You should post in the Customer Care forum they have Dell employees there that may or may not be able to help you. This is mostly a User to User forum."

I have a G7 15 and I've had it for only a couple of years (warranty is already expired) and this issue just started happening about 2 weeks ago. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard drivers, I've uninstalled recent Windows Updates and NOTHING is working.

I don't think it can be fixed.  I think the keyboards are failing on the 5593's because of excessive heat due to bad engineering of ventilation ports-- opening the lid/screen actually Blocks the vents.  CPU heat is trapped in there-- that explains the throttled CPU issues and horrible performance, as well as the video blackouts and noise/lines that so many others have mentioned.

Replace a keyboard.....  have it fail quickly because of the ACTUAL problem of a flawed design.

I have a laptop fan underneath, but you're right, I still feel a lot of heat coming from the area where the lid/screen is located.

Yes--  a lot of heat and you likely aren't playing an advanced game or mining bitcoin or doing really anything strenuous for that processor.  This is a FLAW.

I had it repaired multiple times by dell. Eventually, they sent me a new PC and the keyboard works fine. I noticed the problem started to occur if I tried to use the keyboard while the computer was very hot. Now when I try to launch a game / something heavy on the graphics card I plug in an external keyboard.

Incredible, exactly the same problem with the same keys: b, n, some cursors, space.... 5593 in my case, and yes, the laptop run very hot in some circumstances.

Warranty is a option, yes, but You must to wait in the best case some weeks, send your PC with your personal data (or open it and remove SSD...).
