Super slow Inspiron 3493
I bought a laptop Inspiron 3493, just for simple personal use like spreadsheets and web searches, and after a couple of months it started running very slow, having troubles to even start and bringing up the login screen. I contacted Technical support and after a long thread of emails and endless calls to check on drives and pending downloads, they sent a technician to my home to replace my hard drive.
Again, it worked for a couple of months and started running slow again. Called customer support to help and the lovely person who answer said that yes, that is common to happen on this kind of drive as they are not meant to be used to support Windows at all. They are useful just to store files but if I'm looking to use Microsoft Windows, I should upgrade to another kind of hard drive. He also mentioned that he doesn't understand why the previous technician replaced the hard drive at all, considering that it wasn't going to solve the issue.
To be honest, I feel ripped off. If this hard drive is not meant to support Microsoft Windows, then why would Dell sell me a laptop for almost $1000 when in the end I would have to replace the hard drive and pay an extra $$ in order to work?
I wonder if this happened to other people too? Any help?

You haven't mentioned the CPU you have, or the total amount of memory - but both come into play. Further, a quick check reveals these sell with 1T spinning hard drives for under $500 -- and one of the reasons they do sell that inexpensively is the storage device.
Windows 10 and 11 do not perform well with hard drives -- that is true, but they will perform as well as any other $500 or below system. It's almost inconceivable that one of these so equipped could come anywhere near the price you claim -- unless you're talking about currency other than USD.
Replacing the hard drive with a solid state drive is indeed the answer.

Run troubleshooting tools on your computer. Please type Troubleshooting Control Panel onto [Cortana] search box, click "View All ", and then windows updates. Run the other tools as well.
