System image restore after parts changed
Inspiron 15 3525
I had a fan issue. the dell technician changed the fan and the motherboard. I had a password (pin) to open my laptop, but after he was done i had to reset it and put in a new password. So question is, i had made 2 system images before so will they still work? If the answer is no... If i Reset the password back to the old one, will that work?
(p.s. yes i know i can make a new system image)

If you're restoring a complete system image and the windows password was local, the original password will be restored.
if you're logging into a Microsoft account to get onto the system, then restoring the image will not change that password.

It's complicated. I believe that the PIN is stored locally, not in the MS account, but it is associated with the account. So, if you want to change the PIN you need to be signed in and connected to the Internet so that the change syncs to your Microsoft account.
Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Select PIN (Windows Hello)
At that point you can change your PIN (you would have to first enter the old PIN), or select "I forgot my PIN" to verify your account and create a new PIN.

ok i have been researching info on microsoft account vs local. My password to login to my laptop is not the same as my microsoft account. hope this helps.

The microsoft account confuses me. I'll try and explain. when i first got my laptop i did put in my microsoft accont info: email and password, then continued with all the usual first time questions, then I was asked to add a pin/password to login to my laptop. So when i restart my laptop, i just insert the login password and it opens up. So is my login password Local?
