Windows 10 update fails to install

Windows 10 update fails to install with message "We could not complete the install because an update service was shutting down." This has now happened more than once. First time before/after I had a blue screen  with message :

WINDOWS.COM/STOPCODE; SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED ; failed NETIOS.SYS

I think that this blue screen came up after re-trying to install first failed update so have not re-tried to install any subsequent failed installs. When checked update history the last successful install prior to blue screen was driver : Intel Corporation - SCSIAdapter - 18.30.3.1148

Since then definition updates (antivirus) have installed ok but February 2, 2021-KB4598299 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10, version 20H2 Failed to install on ‎05/‎02/‎2021 - 0x8024001e

I am not a techie and daren't do anything to 'upset' my laptop so explanation of problem/advice what to do, if anything, would be welcome. I did look up info on blue screen etc and it seemed to point to the Intel driver supplied by Microsoft possibly causing the problem. What would happen if I try to un-install it? Will the previous version still be there and work? I cleared out some old stuff from the Windows download folder to tidy up but problem is still there. The laptop is Dell Inspiron 5593 running Windows 10 Home. I did try running the windows update troubleshooter in settings but it did nothing.

Thank you.

Dana

Download KB4598299  from https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=4598299  and give it a short name.

Choose the version that matches the Windows 10 that is on the laptop.

Disconnect from the internet by turning off wifi.

Disable your anti-virus. I personally only use Windows 10 built-in anti-virus.

Double-click on the .msu that you downloaded and renamed.

Hi and thanks for the advice. But I would really like to find out why it's gone wrong rather than have to manually download every time something gets stuck. Nothing has installed since 13th Jan except antivirus definitions and the Intel driver update that installed itself on 31 Jan.

Updates appear with a failed to install message and then disappear. I don't even know how many have now 'disappeared'. There had been failure messages about   KB2267602 on 3/02/2021 & KB4598299 on 5/02/2021.

KB890830 & KB4601050  are now (14 Feb) downloaded pending install  & KB4601319 is downloaded 100% but nothing is happening at all.  There is lots of stuff accumulating in the Windows download folder but only  AM_Delta_Patch_1.331.994.0.exe is in the install sub-folder. There is a Windows10.0-KB4601050-x64-NDP48.cab file, also  Windows10.0-KB4586858-x64.cab and  Windows10.0-KB4601319-x64.cab in different subfolders but all dated 14 Feb..

Does anyone know why the update service shuts down? That was what started it all.
