Before doing anything, thoroughly investigate the implications of installing Debian on a UEFI/Secure Boot system -- I think you'll find this system does not have the old Legacy/CSM mode many distributions of Linux still require.
Ubuntu is the front-runner for UEFI support -- that's not to say other distros won't work, but you may well have to use a custom kernel rather than a default one to get the operating system installed.

Debian Stretch non-free installation works after a fashion, though there is a problem with xorg drivers for mouse and touchpad.
I wish dell would have made a friendly version of a backup recovery media for both the windows and Ubuntu readily available.
I have more pleasure out of a competitor's 11 years old celeron notebook I am fixing

It depends on which version of Ubuntu, the issue of sharing data was with Ubuntu 14 mostly but 18 and 20 lts are fine all you have to do is turn off the auto updates in the default settings. Installation for Debian however is much more technical and requires that know exactly what you're doing in most cases the Debian community only releases fully tested features of which some of those features they tested them up four years before release, but when they are released they're very stable unlike Ubuntu that may support on the fly but have small bugs an intermediate or beginner can solve. If you know what you're doing then fight with Debian have fun with the installation you will learn a lot from it

This is a revision of my comment dd 23 Sept 2020.
That box worked OK with Ubuntu, disappointingly with Debian Stretch and
there were frequent errors coming from one or other of the four processor
cores indicating kernel incompatibility and possibly a problem with some
drivers, I was unsuccessful in running Debian Duster on it.
Recently I tried installing an up to date version of "Bullseye"
which is the current stable, and surprise surprise, it seems to
run "Bullseye" and a multitude of app without the slightest hiccup.
