dell isnpiron 5515 does not turn on

I just bought  a new Dell Inspiron 5515 ryzen 5 laptop and I was installing the cern root software which usually takes two hours to complete the installation process. So while the installation process was going on I left the laptop idle and was doing other work. after one hour when I come back and press the power button of the laptop it did not turn on. Then I tried several times to turn on the laptop but nothing worked.

Kindly help me! It is a brand new laptop.

Ohh. I purchased it on 19th Feb from a Dell exclusive store and after three days I did dual boot and from the fifth day, it was dead. And since then I am on online customer support and wasted my time on this. I am really depressed about my money.

Hello,

Hope you're well!

We wanted to check if the service team have collected the system for repair.

The system is completely dead. Even after two visits of the dell technician, no solution has been provided yet. Finally, I am supposed to get the replacement of this faulty laptop.

I got the exact issue today on a Inspiron 15 Ryzen 7 laptop that I bought in Feb. I guess it is time to get a refund.

Are you sure Dell will provide you a refund for this? Since in my case they were ready for the replacement!

Did you ever find a solution to this? I also have a 5515 that arrived yesterday, and if I put the laptop to sleep, or shut down the OS, I have to pull the back panel off to disconnect / reconnect the battery before it will power back on again.

There is a service tech coming out tomorrow to replace the mainboard, and I guess we'll see if that's the problem and if it resolves things completely or not. If not, and the new mainboard has the same problem, then I'll be sending the laptop back for a refund.

For linux users on this laptop, you'll need to use kernel 5.17.5 or later.

My bug report here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2080694

Fedora 36 ships with a fixed kernel. Other distros that use kernel 5.17.5 or above should be fine now.

Exactly same happened with me. Almost a week after purchasing the Inspiron 5515 Ryzen 5, I partitioned it. Installed Windows 11. It worked fine. Installed Ubuntu. It also worked fine, for a few hours at least. Then put it to sleep and it never woke up.

Now waiting for its battery to drain completely. Hopefully it'll be back to life if the issue is due to Linux kernel bug.

Just to confirm, my laptop woke up after the battery was drained. The issue no more appears with kernel 5.18.6 as others have reported.
