Can we get IB throughput via SNMP

Hi guys,

I use the OneFS v6.5.4.17 and  need to watch each IB throughput size via SNMP, but can't find OID in MIB files.

Did anyone try to get IB network throughput? Could you advise me how to get

the throughput size via SNMP?

Thanx,

Masahiro

With 6.5.5., it seems some information get be obtained: check for ib0 and ib1 and the corresponding counters in the example below. On the other hand, we found that the throughput rates for the internal IB network reported by "isi statistics query ..." are  mainly useless (plain incorrect on some 108NL nodes). I don't know wether SNMP returns the same numbers, so better double check wether both "isi statistics" and SNMP report plausible/consistent/correct(?) values.

Thanks, Peter.

I found the following MIBs in standard one.

*In traffic

.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.6.5 (ib0)

.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.6.6 (ib1)

*Out traffic

.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.10.5 (ib0)

.1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.10.6 (ib1)

It looks SNMP server can receive the traffic size, but we probably prefer to

receive data using the Isilon MIB.

Masahiro,

did you try it? If so, do the reported value make any sense?

Do you have to query each node separately?

Peter

Hi Peter,

I've tried but  the values were almost zero, moreover when quering at each nodes,

the values were not good, zero. Probably I may gather the value using  IB Switch mib,

but EMC doesn't support quering using IBSW mib. Showing the mib and oid are available

for quering for ib throughput, I guess.

thanks,

Masahiro

Hello Masahiro

it seems the IB throughput isn't even reported correctly by the internal tools (isi statistics), so leave alone SNMP. Not sure about netstat though....

Hi, question.  Where can I get the SNPMv2-SMI file?  Is that a generic file that is used for all SNMP OID translations that I can download from the web?  I was only able to find the ISILON-MIB and ISILON-TRAP-MIB files on the Isilon Gui.

thank you,

Andre

The example was made using the Isilon-provided file.

It start likes this:

ISILON-MIB DEFINITIONS ::= BEGIN

IMPORTS

    MODULE-IDENTITY, OBJECT-TYPE, OBJECT-IDENTITY, NOTIFICATION-TYPE,

    Integer32, Gauge32, Counter64, snmpModules, enterprises

        FROM SNMPv2-SMI

    CounterBasedGauge64

        FROM HCNUM-TC

    TEXTUAL-CONVENTION, DisplayString

        FROM SNMPv2-TC

    MODULE-COMPLIANCE, OBJECT-GROUP, NOTIFICATION-GROUP

        FROM SNMPv2-CONF;

Note that ISILON-MIB references SNMPv2-SMI,

which is simple provided with or built into snmpwalk.

(At least I never dealt with that file explicitly.)
