MTU Setting on Isilon
Is it possible to have two different MTU settings on two NICs on a single node on Isilon? For example: if I have two 10G connections on ONE Isilon node, can I set MTU=1500 on NIC1 and MTU=9K on NIC2.

With Isilon, the MTU setting is per "subnet" - a subnet can have multiple "address pools".
Just create a new subnet for MTU 9000, and at least one address pool within it,
and associate the desired interfaces with that pool.

Hi varunmalhi,
I didn't find the specific description whether this configuration is supported in the materials, however, there are some command "ifconfig" output in the primus article as below:
So I think you are able to set the different MTU value on different ports. If you feel my answer is helpful, please mark it as correct or helpful answer. thanks.

In this case, you can see there are multiple ports in the node, and then these interfaces have different MTU value.

Jeffey,
Do you have the primus case number for the above output?

The supported options for mtu are 1500 and 9000. These are for the Network adapters on the isilon.
em0 and em1,
(fec0 is a bonded interface from em0 and em1.)
Your screenshot shows different mtus for different types of adapters. Ib0 and Ib1 are infiniband adapters.
And Lo0 is a loopback adapter. Do not attempt to change the mtu of those devices.
For the other part of the question. I believe it is either 1500 or 9000 as a global setting. Don't forget that you have to set the rest of your infrastructure to use jumbo 9000 frames if you are setting this option on the isilon.

MRWA,
I have a customer who wants to configure MTU 9K for all the hosts accessing data on the Isilon but wants MTU 1500 for replication. My question essentially is whether that is:
1. Technically possible, if not then why not
2. Recommended/Best practice or not, if not then why not
Their replication network and destination Isilon is configured for 1500 MTU and the front end hosts, IBM Netezza that pushes data into Isilon is configured for 9K.
Any help or suggestions or documents will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
