Secure Vs Manual Join Modes
we have a need to join 3 new nodes to isilon cluster and we are wondering what could be the best practice, Manual or Secure mode. We read that manual mode is pretty straight forward and can use front LCD or console to join nodes to cluster and Secure node will only support Web admin interface.
Anyways, what we should consider while making decision Manual Vs Secure. In what circumstance users choose Secure mode ?

Choosing Manual or Secure entirely depends upon your needs.
Using manual mode you can add node to cluster without need of any authorization. In manual mode you can use the front lcd to join the cluster.
Secure mode requires added authorization for node to join. The authorization can be provided through web interface or command line.
The decision for any of these mode is dependent on the control you want to extend over your cluster. If you do not want anyone to add node using front panel lcd then go for secure mode. Your decision to restrict add from front panel again depends upon your specific needs. If you use secure mode it will also restrict join from serial console wizard.
