1501 Memory
I have an Inspiron 1501 with 2 gigs memory. It has an AMD Turion 64 running Vista.
SLOW
I wanted to upgrade system memory to 4 gigs, but everything I've been reading tells me I can only support 2 gigs.
Is this correct? Why? I thought we ran that hurdle years ago.
Any suggestions are helpful. I've shut down just about everything I can...still slow.
Believe it or not I even reloaded and started over, effectively dumping all the I don't use anyway.
Is there any way out of the dark ages of three minute boots and excrutiatingly slow WMP loading?

More RAM may help slightly but won't be a dramatic improvement. The best upgrade: remove Vista and install XP.

Hello,
What you have been reading is correct.
Your 1501 laptop can only support 2GB of the correct memory, as seen on both the Dell site and at Crucial. Your downloads page for the 1501 system does contain a full set of XP drivers. You might consider going the XP Pro route.

Other users have upgraded to 4gb on the 1501 with no issues, pcgeek who frequents these boards is one of them.
Click start>then type "msconfig" in search box,no quotes.Click startup tab>turn off all startup items that are not needed.
Run disk defrag, also this will help but not sure if it will completely get rid of the boot problems.
