AC Power Adapter Not Recognized Message in a Brand new Inspiron N1710

Hi,

This is a barely two day old system. Sometimes I get the message after reboot:

'ac power adapter type cannot be determined' saying that I need to put a 90w or higher power adapter. Now, battery holds the charge fine and the computer runs just fine.

Is it a defective unit? If so then I would like to return it and get something else while I still have the option for return/refund.

I have looked online and it seems like a pretty common problem.

Thanks!

You can and probably should return the system for replacement before 21 days have elapsed from the ship date.

@Ejn63,

Thank you. Sounds like a good advice although I hate to get rid of this otherwise very very nice computer. The problem has disappeared right now despite several reboots. But I have seen it online that for some people the problem came back after some months and then eventually the adapter failed for them. Currently, the battery charges fine and there are no more of these messages on reboot.

It is a tough call: I have the computer already setup with loads of applications for work after spending a whole day on it.

Thanks.
