ATI Mobility Radeon 9000
I have an inspiron 8200 with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000. I was working on it one day and the graphics started to look funny so I rebooted the machine. The screen came up black after rebooting and I couldn't do anything on the machine. I shut down the machine manually by holding down the power button and once I rebooted I was put into safe mode. The error that came up in safe mode stated that the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 driver was causing the problem. I reinstalled the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 drivers from the cd that came with the 8200 and same problem, black screen on reboot and then safe mode again after hard reboot. I downloaded the current drivers from dell and tried that as well. Same problem. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Open 'er up and make sure the video/ display connection is firmly in place.... sometime it can come loose and cause problems. If you try that and its not the issue post back here.

Thanks.
I opened it up and checked all the connections. All ok.
However, when i go into safe mode and unistall the ATI driver and reboot. All is ok. Get video no problem but the os is using the vgasave driver from microsoft not the ATI driver. Once i reinstall the ATI driver, which is the latest from Dell site, and reboot, the screen never comes up. I also updated the BIOS from Dell's site as well. This didn't work either. One other thing I would like to point out is that when i install the ATI driver and reboot a sharp whistiling sound seems to come from the laptop.
Any ideas?

anything with hooking up svideo/external vga causes similar problems.
i noticed the new d500's do not come with a radeon.
is this a known problem with these notebooks?
i LOVE my notebook.. but the video card problems i've been having is driving me mad.

I have recently got a problem with my Mobility Radeon 9000. It's been almost 2 years i bought my Inspiron 8200 laptop with this card and no problems have ever occured. But, with the newest game as Farcry demo or Colin Mcrae 2005 demo the card crashes.
The last update for the mobility radeon 9000 card is
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, v.7.83-030120a1-7221C, A03
Release Date: 02/21/2003
Description: This self-extracting and auto-running zip file contains the ATI Mobility
Radeon 9000 graphics driver for the Dell Inspiron 8200 portable computing
system.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rather old! On ati.com there are the last updates (09/09/04) for ati family cards but dont work on my system, only the control pannel works (http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/radeonwdm-xp.html?type=xp&prodType=graphic&prod=productsXPdriver&submit.x=11&submit.y=6).
So, if Dell doesnt create a new update for this card on their laptop, we can say goodbye for newest games! It's perhaps their policy, just take care of your customer during 2 years, and afterwards Dell lets them get mad with their old system till they buy new ones!!!
Is anybody from Dell's could answer me, please?
Thank you
