ATI Radeon 9800 Mobility

First the specs on my system just to get that out of the way:

P4 3.4Ghz Proc
2GB Ram
ATI Radeon 9800 256mb Mobility

Now the problem,  I have the R106662 drivers (latest) from the site, and have even set the ati control panel to lean towards the performance options, and yet I am getting low framerates.

In an older game I play somtimes  (Medal of Honor)  I dont seem to have any problems, the in game FPS meter often plays at 70+ FPS

But more often now I play World of Warcraft, and have gotten CoD, CoD UO, and a couple other higher end games compared to MoH, on any of those I do not seem to be able to get over 20 FPS.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts, anything I might be missing.   I did even try installing the radeon catalyst drivers from ati site but couldnt from there, their checker said it wouldnt work.  Thanks for any help.

You could try using the modified Omega drivers or use the ATI drivers from the ATI website plus the modding tool I have linked below to install them.

I Also have the most recent 9800 Drivers, and just recently EVE Online, runs like in ULTRA slow motion now on my laptop. I use to be able to run two clients at once and it was nice and fluid now it's like completely unplayable. Seems most hi-end graphics games make the machine crawl.

The odd time EVE will load up and run fine on it for a "Period" of time, but 90% of the time it's a disastor. Allmost seems heat realted. Any Suggestions?

I tried the latest Omega Drivers, but they don't seem too compatable with the 9100.

P4 3.4Ghz HT Processor
1GB Ram
ATI Radeon 9800 256mb Mobility
- Newest Drivers (v.8.162-050803a2-025875C, A05)
- Newest ATI Bois flash (008.017.192.038)

try to monitor hw temperature with a specific sw, like I9kfangui. it could be heat related.

As it turns out after searching the forums for a few hrs I found that it's just the fans need cleaning, and now my laptop is running like brand new...

This is kind of a dissapointment that it's not right on the dell site saying clean your system fans on these hi end graphics models.

o yea, in the future monitoring your internal temperature... There are toons of 3d on this forum about clear heat sink and termal vents....

Nice to see you now rock the fps competition... Your notebook is a great notebook with a great vid card (exclusive of Dell).

To improve my system's performance, I'm considering using drivers other than those from Dell.  I'm currently running the latest drivers from Dell with my system reporting a 3DMark05 result of 2854 (no overclocking).

Which drivers are the best for overall performance, compatibility, and stability?

Modified Catalyst or Omega?

My system specs are:

Inspiron 9100
3.2 GHz Pentium 4 w/HT
2.0 GB of PC3200/DDR400 RAM
ATI MR9800 256 MB
100 GB 7200 rpm HTS721010G9AT00 hard drive

you can try download driver from DNA drivers.nl

Then use AtiTool to oc and manage your vid card.

Others driver are NGO.

Owever your bench show a very good score... 2900 without oc is very good. Considering that an atiX700, or a Nvidia Geforce6600Go can obtain a score around 3000 pts but with a slight overclock.

I went ahead and installed the Catalyst 6.3 drivers with the mod tool.  Everything is working great so far.

My 3DMark05 score is now 2918 but my CPUMark score dropped down to 3605 where it used to be 3686 after I upgraded to 2GB of main memory.

thanks for your feedback. Try to oc your card....

For the cpu score, try to launch 3dmark2005 with only one gb of ram!.

Where do you download your driver?

Version of your Warcraft III?

I am actually using World of Warcraft, the latest version 1.10.  I downloaded all my drivers from Dell Support.  Last week I downloaded one of the other popular drivers, not the Omega driver, and adjusted some of the performance parameters and had a slight increase but nothing near making the game playable.
