Alienware 17 Clicking Noise

Hi Guys

Recently bought a Alienware 17 with 64g msata and 750*2 HDD.   The problem I'm encountering is the clicking noise from the left side of the laptop.

If happens quite often while I'm watching a youtube video.  Gets somewhat annoying after a while....

Here is a video for it.  It happens at the 7-8th second.

Any Idea what this is?

Hi tkcrule,

I suppose you are referring to the Alienware 17 R1 system. If not, please share the exact model.

The CPU fan and the secondary hard drive are located on the left side of the system which can make clicking sounds; however as per the video provided by you it seems to be the system notification sound.

You may try to mute all the system sounds and check if you still hear the clicking sound.

Do you hear the clicking sound when not on YouTube or while using other applications?

I will suggest you to run the diagnostics. You may try any of the following methods to run the diagnostics:

  • Press and the power button to initiate diagnostics.

Or

  • Shut down and restart the computer.
  • Press the F12 key immediately when the Dell logo appears. The Boot Device list appears.
  • Select Diagnostics and press the Enter key.
