Alienware laptop speakers small problem.

I have a alienware M17x R2. The problem I have is that I want to use headphones but the speakers are still playing sound. I have gone to the settings to try and set the headphones as default, but the headphones don't show up there. Also I disabled the speakers, but it just turns off all sound. Can someone help fix this?
