Annoying display resolution change, when closing lid
Hello at all,
i own a Dell Insprion 8600 WUXGA and AT 9600pro.
My standard display resolution is 1920x1600.
Now where is my problem. Every time I close the lid of my notebook, it changes the display resolution to 800x600 an rearranges all applications and icons. When I open the lid the resolution changes back to 1920x1600, but icons and application windows remain in an 800x600 range on the top, left corner of the display.
Maybe the I8600 switchs to S-Video Out and therefor changes the resolution, but I'm not sure about this.
Anybody have the same problem or can give me some advice to stop the notebook changing the resolution, when closing the lid?
Thanks,
Tiggar

thank you for your reply.
Indeed, I use latest BIOS. I updated last week from A05 to A06.
But nothing changed. Do you think it is a good Idea to step back to an earlier bios like A04, or so?
Yesterday I contacted the Dell customer support. But they didn't knew this problem.
The qualified man on the other end on the line suggested to format my hard disk and to reinstall Windows XP.
But for now that isn't a alternative.

After playing a little bit with diffrent laptop BIOS and video driver version, i figured out, that closing the lid causes the video driver to switch to s-video out.
If you use the standard vga driver instead of the delivered Dell video driver, closing the lid doesn't cause any action to the s-video out.
I solved my problem using the unsupported Omega drivers. This driver will do the same as original Dell drivers, but don't change display resolution at all.
Does anyone know some software, which can manage the use of the small button under the lid?
This is for Dell ATI video driver developer: Be aware of that small button. It breaks your neck...!
