BIOS UPDATE A10/ A13/ A16 XPS 15 9550 4K SCREEN TERRIBLE FLICKER

HI,

I have an XPS 15 9550 laptop with 4K screen. I installed the recently released BIOS update which is supposed to address the flickering screen issue. Previously I only ever experienced some minor intermittent flicker at brightness level 0 but after the update, flickering was occurring quite frequently - I checked this upto brightness level 50% and it occurs at all the way up.

It appears the update has made things much much worse Luckily I managed to roll back to A06 which must be the previous release as its the only one on the downloads page.

Anyone else find the update made things much worse?

Be good to know what Dell is doing to sort this out (again).

You can go to Control Panel -> Program and features, you can sort by "Installed On", and look for the Dell updates on the date you did your installation.

If you find it out, please share with me. mine is also having the flickering, and the configuration is the same as yours.

Thanks.

No flicker here, but I have not installed any NVIDIA GeForce updates since mid December as I recall someone reporting it may have caused flickering.  I am running NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver 376.33, NVIDIA Graphics Driver 376.33, NVIDIA GeForce Experience 3.2.0.96, and Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 Driver Version 20.19.15.4483

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your info. How about your BIOS version?

Actually, looks like they released 1.2.19.  I am still on 1.2.18.

What is the brightness? Mine has no flickering for brightness 10% and above. It only happens when brightness is reduced to 0.

I guess flickering issue will never go away... only solution seems to be 4331. I noticed most of other Intel drivers give flickering issue on top of that have horrible gamma level which causes dark images/video look pixelated.

I am still experiencing flicker on the latest drivers(20.19.15.4531_A08) and BIOS(1.2.19).

Is this problem still happening  to you?

still flickering time to time with latest BIO and driver and dark/black videos/images look like total garbage. set the brightness high and look at this image(easier to see in dark room). it's suppose to show gradual changes in shades from 0 to 21 but it's showing as segments so when watching movies or images black/dark areas is showing pixelated, i think it's called "Black clipping". If you install 4331 driver and look at this same image, it shows perfect transition of black.

every driver released after 4331 has this "clipping" issue. pretty ridiculous neither Intel/Dell knows how to fix this issue.

Yes, tried the update again earlier this week, still no good. Rolled back to 4331 and A06. It's still the best configuration on mine. With the newer updates the fans are on all the time aswell which is even more annoying than the screen flicker. Just have to put up with the You Need Updates notification, it's less annoying than the current alternatives

Is anyone running Linux experiencing the same problems or is this just on Windows? I don't seem to have any problems when it's running Ubuntu.

Yes, 4K touchscreen display. A06 isn't perfect but it's a lot better than all the others on mine.

Is anyone else having issues with the latest Intel HD Graphics 530/P530 Driver?  My screen started acting up yesterday.  Problems started after the latptop crashed and I had a blue screen stuck at 0%.

So I had to abort the blue screen by holding down the power button.  Ever since then my screens blinks several times upon waking and the colors look off.  While playing around with Dell Premier Color my laptop blue screened again.  Then a second time.  I figured maybe my graphics drivers had gotten corrupted after the initial blue screen.  I went to install the latest graphics driver and lo and behold it looks like they released a new driver yesterday and it's already on my xps 15, so maybe this is the cause of my problems???  I see a new BIOS was released last week as well.  Machine has been working so well since they fixed the flickering I'm tempted to just roll back the intel video driver and see if that solves the problems.  Anyone else???
