Battery Longevity issue

Hi !

In my  Dell 5521 15r I have activated the following 2 utilities simultaneously. Hence need a wise decision whether to inactive one of these or to keep both active ?

A) "DESKTOP MODE BATTERY CHARGE"

B) "LONGEVITY MODE BATTERY CHARGE "

Please advise.

Hi Judebd,

The Dell Desktop Mode feature enables you to protect your laptop battery health. Continuously powering your computer by connecting it to an A/C power outlet may reduce the battery life. The desktop mode feature protects the battery health by moderating the extent to which your battery charges, protecting your battery when it is not in use. Your Dell laptop automatically monitors the charging and discharging behavior of your battery, and if applicable, displays a message requesting you to enable Desktop Mode, if Desktop Mode is supported on your laptop battery.

When desktop mode is enabled, the battery will only charge between 50 and 100 percent of its capacity.

If a system is frequently removed from or connected to a power source, it may reduce battery life. When the Longevity mode setting is enabled, it protects the battery from frequent charge and discharge cycles. The battery only charges between 88%-100% when longevity mode is enabled. The system pops-up a notification based on user behavior.

  • The default setting for longevity mode is OFF.
  • If you want the battery charge back to 100% at any time, you can activate the setting by clicking the Charge Battery to 100% one time button. This will enable the battery to charge back to 100% from any capacity one time.
  • When the battery discharges to below 7%, the longevity mode gets disabled. The battery will start charging normally and will be able to charge fully.
  • When an unsupported battery is installed, the options under longevity mode would be grayed out.
