Battery making high pitched sounds
Hi there,
I have Inspiron 640M/E1405, with Windows XP, Home Edition. I only use my battery once a month as a way of conditioning it. I drain it completely, then charge it to 100%, then drain it down to about 40% then store it for another month. Been doing that ever since I got my laptop about a year ago. The thing is, when I first used the battery, it lasted about 6-7 hours. Then since about the second time around, it's been giving about 3 hours or so. Also, I've noticed that it's been making high pitched sounds ever since the second time around that I used the battery. The noise only occurs when the laptop is in use with battery ONLY, but not when it is being used with an AC adapter or when being charged. The noise sounds like a high pitched buzzing sound, going something like this: bzzzzzzzzzzzzz. it's constant and never stops, not even intermittently.
What could be wrong with this? I mean I only use it once a month but for some reason, I only got 6-7 hours for one time only and after that, it only gives about 3 hours tops. Thanks for reading this post and for any advice.
