Hi everyone, I'm trying to boot from an external usb cd-rom on my Latitude C840 but I haven't find a way yet; I was guessing if updating my bios will be a solution. Has anyone already done it ? In case wich bios version have I to download?

Hi,

No " C " series will boot from USB. As you have a CD and floppy built in, either will work.

Hi,

You should be able to download a DOS bootable floppy, or the .exe file, make a DOS bootable CD, then after DOS loads, run the .exe file. You may need to change the boot order, or use an F12 at the splash screen to for a 1 time boot.

You need to get a startup disk image. That will be required to copy the io.sys and msdos.sys and command.com from. Any of the Bootable images will work. Then copy those files to the root of C:\ It has no effect on an XP NTFS system you just need them there so that you can Point to C:\ as to where to get the dos files from. Then Download the M-Systems Dell USB Memory Key. boot utilityand format your usb thumb drive with the make my flash drive bootable option then point to c:\

Then when you boot hit F12 and it should show the USB flash device as a bootable device IF the bios in your system supports that.
