Blue screen and shutting down

Dears,

I have bought a new laptop, Dell XPS 14Z, 14 inch, with Windows 7 Premeium installed on it. However, I have a couple of problems from the very start which makes me regret buying it. The laptop works great, but sometimes when I try to shut it down, it doesn't. Just a blue window with shutting down sign but it never turns off perfectly.

The second problem is even deadlier. A blue screen, once a day or two days once appears and I never know why. This death screen comes from nowhere without any reason, I scanned my computer and there's no trace of virus. The only think recognizeable from the screen is this file 'tixhci.sys" file.

The laptop is very good in terms of hardware, 2.5 CPU i5, RAM 4GB, 500GB of hard drive and 1GB of display card,

Can anyone help me here? Many thanks in advance,

PS, I don't know much about BIOS, so please tell me step by stem if the problem is related to the hardware,

Hello Shalaw,

The 1000007e Windows error is usually due to Microsoft Windows system corruption. A crash can be caused by due to a lot of reasons. A few of them being the following:

1. An outdated or misbehaving device driver.
2. Computer virus.
3. A corrupted program.
4. A problem with your computer's memory.

Hello Shalaw,

I would request you to help me with few details to assist you further.
-- Do you get any stop error code? If yes, please help me with that.
-- Please check if you are able to boot from Safe Mode with Networking.
From the Advance Boot Options select Safe Mode with Networking and check if the computer is booting to windows. If it does, check if you get the blue screen.

-- Run the Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA / ePSA) Diagnostics
Run the test and check if gives any error code. Note down the error code and update me with the same, would let you know the next course of action. If the test passes on all the hardware components, follow the next step.

-- Update the BIOS to the latest version.
**NOTE: Few things to ensure before updating the Bios is, the Ac Adapter should be plugged in and the battery should have minimum of 15% charge. No other external peripherals should be connected to the computer. Please ensure that the Bios update should not be interrupted else it would damage the motherboard.

Please write back with results, would be glad to assist you further.

I also run the ePSA test and the message was there is no error in the system. It asked me for memory tests which may take 30 minutes but I refused. I tried to update the bios, the only plugged in things were my charger and my internet USB, still the installation stopped, I will try to update the BIOS later anyway... Thanks.

*sigh*

Sure, pass the buck and blame it on Microsoft Windows again so you don't have to deal with the problem.

*sigh*

I'm sure the problem is NOT a "corrupt Windows" with his BRAND NEW COMPUTER

He said it was txihci.sys causing the bluescreen -- and this it the Texas Instruments USB 3.0 hub/drivers

It could be bad Dell drivers (*GASP!* oh my, imagine that!); or it could be related to one of the devices (and/or its drivers) that you are plugging in to the USB 3.0 ports.

Blue-screens caused by trying to use the new USB 3.0 on new Dell laptops is a widely pervasive common issue in the world (need be more redundant or add emphasis to that statement?).

One suggestion I have seen is to set the Windows power settings to "High Performance" and turn off the "USB selective suspend" setting.

Other suggestions are to make sure the device and drivers you are plugging in to USB 3.0 are up-to-date and fully compatible; and, of course, updating the DELL DRIVERS is a good idea (TI USB 3.0).  I'm surprised Dell-Allan D suggested updating BIOS but not the TI drivers.  And as always, the first canned-answer response is always awesome.

Good luck with your bug hunt, Shalaw!

Dears,

Many thanks for your comments, actually my problems (both of them) were solved when I installed a new version of windows. Although the laptop was firstly had Windows 7, I installed 8 and it works great. No longer blue screen or windows-not-shutting down. In fact it seems the new windows is working better in terms of security since I haven't had any virus since the day I installed.

Thanks again to you both.
