Bluetooth...Where Is It? Do I Have It?

Where can I see if I have bluetooth capability on my Inspiron?  I have an Intel ProWireless 2200 802.b/g Mini PCI Wireless LAN Card.

Bluetooth Devices are not listed in my control panel.

Do I have to purchase a component to enable bluetooth synchronization with mobile phone for example?

Thanks

You don't have it if it's not listed in the control panel.

There is an internal, proprietary Dell bluetooth module for this system. You can get it from Dell parts (below).

The other option would be an external USB bluetooth adapter, which is a standard, non-proprietary part you can buy anywhere.

If you are looking for the blue Bluetooth icon in Control Panel, the Dell lastest internal Wireless 350 Bluetooth module with the standard Dell/Toshiba stack does not place one - there is a Bluetooth COM port icon but it is not the oval blue Bluetooth icon you were looking for.  It may also help to know which notebook you have since some models may not support internal Bluetooth as an option.

Bluetooth adapters come in three form factors:

1) Bluetooth Daughter Card which is internal to the dell laptop. If it was purchased along with the laptop, it would be either a Dell 300 or 350 Bluetooth Module. You can check for the same on your invoice or by going into the BIOS Setup or System Setup (Tap F2 key to access System Setup at Dell Logo during Power On). On the System Setup Screen, on one of the pages you would have an option for Onboard Bluetooth. If it says installed, then bluetooth is available. If it says not installed, then you need to get one from dell parts sales.

For some model of dell laptops, this part can be replaced by us but there are a few models where it requires the help of a dell certified technician to add the part.

2) Bluetooth PC Card - Major manufacturers include Motorola and Siemens. Most of the new dell laptops do not have a PC Slot but instead have a EXPRESS Slot which will not support this form factor.

3) Bluetooth USB adapter - Best Available option. Will work with any configuration.

I don't know if this helps or not but my toolbar has the blue oval with the white icon. I did have to right-click to install the hardware.

Hi Best_Try,

Do you know if the 700m supports the bluetooth PC card?  If so, where can I get it.  Thanks!!

Cheers,
