C810-C840 BIOS A12 C-Dock USB PCI error
Using C-Dock (not C-Dock II) with Lat C840 and C810. In the Dock PCI slot is a USB 2.0 card. When the C810 is docked and then powered on, at almost the very end of he POST I recieve the mystery "Press F1 to Continue, Press F2 to enter Setup" ... no other reference as to what it thinks is incorrectly configured in the BIOS. Press F1, everything loads normally. USB ports on the PCI are seen by XP-Pro after the boot completes - no problem.
The C810 boots up un-docked without the "F1" error.
Without the PCI-USB2.0 card in the Dock PCI slot, this "F1" error does not occur.
Using my other laptop, the C840 in the Dock, this "F1" error does not occur with or without the PCI USB2.0 card in the dock.
Tried different brands of PCI-USB 2.0 cards, the C810 still gives me the POST "F1" error.
Tried forcing IRQ11, changed several items in the BIOS, nothing helps.
Upgraded the C810 to A12 BIOS, still the same F1 error when docked and PCI-USB2.0 card in Dock. My C840 does not have this problem in the Dock. Any ideas? Searched the fourms for a couple of weeks now under C-Dock and other related keywords. Thanks
C810 and C840 both have latest BIOS, both XP-Pro SP2, both can use the C-Dock ... only C810 gets this F1 error with the PCI USB2.0 card in the Dock...both teh C810 and C840 see the PCI-USB card in dock once boot has completed.

THEN SHUT DOWN
THEN PUT THE CARDS in.
Docking and undocking with power on is NOT A GOOD IDEA
leads to PERMANENT DAMAGE to the dock and laptop.

Undocking and docking with power off each time is a given - I didn't realize I needed to be clear on that point. The machines are not docked/undocked hot, always booted from a cold start docked or undocked and shut down prior to docking/undocking - well aware of the damage that may occur if swapped hot ...
I didn't say anything about the quick dock software becuase it's not installed. I have never heard of the quickstart dock software, and we have many machines here with CDOCKs (they were here before I started here years ago, so I didn't do the setup, otherwise I might have been aware of the need for that sw)
... Does this software somehow affect the settings in the BIOS as the error appears prior to the OS loading - so I am not clear on how CDOCK software will affect a BIOS level message ... unless that what it is designed to modify ...
I'll search for this software, and try per your instructions - thank you for your assistance
