CPU upgrade for Inspiron 1100 laptop?

I have an Inspiron 1100 laptop I've had since new. I've upgraded a number of things on it over the years - 1gig RAM memory, bigger hard drive, 14" monitor. The fan just went out, and I'm replacing the fan and heat sink, and it occurred to me that the CPU is right there- so is there anything I can put in there to give it a bit more power? My current configuration is a Celeron 2.3GHz. I was looking at a P4 2.4GHz SL6WF socket 478, with an 800MHz FSB, but I didn't know if the motherboard could handle that.

The 1100 takes ONLY desktop P4s and ONLY on the 400 MHz bus.  Be careful with the higher speed (they go up to 2.8 GHz) ones - the 1100 has cooling problems as is and a fast CPU will only exacerbate those.

Thanks for the advice. I found a P4 2.4GHz to install. It was no problem, booted right up. No cooling problems (it's actually running cooler than before), but I installed a new fan and heat sink at the same time. It's significantly faster than the old processor, and now I can watch videos online which I couldn't do before. It has extended the life of this old laptop a few more years. Thanks!

hey sorry to bring back this old thread but did you end up going with the SL6WF? or another 2.4ghz cpu?

also does anyone know which Pentium mobile 4 (note: different from Pentium 4 m) are compatible with the Inspiron 1100?
