Can Inspiron 15 - N5050 Support Intel Wireless Display (WiDi)?

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron N5050 laptop computer
specifically because I wanted a computer that would support WiDi (Intel
Wireless Display) to my HDTV. I had been under the assumption that all current
generation laptops included Intel Wireless Display technology.

After receiving the computer, I have just discovered that
the wireless network card in this machine apparently does NOT support wireless
display technology. Is there a way that I can replace the network card in this
machine with one that DOES support wireless display technology or at least add
an additional card to the machine that supports wireless display? Or…am I stuck
with a machine that does not have the capability that I need?  Thanks for any help.

Hi Scott_SK,

Welcome to the Community.

To be able to use the Intel Wireless Display the system needs to have the  following minimum requirement as given in this link below :

www.intel.com/.../CS-031059.htm

Replacing the wireless card(Dell Wireless card with Intel) or adding wireless card will not help as this feature should be enabled on the system from the factory.

If your system is within 21 days from the invoice date you may returm the system for full refund and re-order a system which supports the WiDi technology.

Thank You

Hi!

I'm having the same problem. When I purchased my notebook I didn't know the wireless display yet. A couple of weeks ago i tried to connect my laptop with my tv and surprisingly came to know that it doesn't support the WD. I've search some information about my processor and found that it may support the WD technology, so I've contacted the Intel support and they told me that maybe Dell has blocked the WD function from factory.

My laptop is not covered by warranty anymore, so what can i do to enable the WD? there's any way to do that?

Thanks

The two things to check:

Your system must be UMA (Intel integrated video) -- if it has nVidia or ATI/AMD, it won't work with WiDi.

The network adapter must be Intel - not Broadcom/Dell.

Thanks for the answer!

My system configuration is:

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000

Processor: Intel Core i5-2430M

Wireless: Europe Dell Wireless 802.11g/n + Bluetooth v3.0+HS Card

So, if I change my wireless card it may work?

Thanks!

But i still can't use WIDI.
