Can't play blu ray media

Another Windows 8 upgrade problem I guess. Installed PowerDVD12 on upgrade to get blu ray, and it worked fine for several weeks, but now it doesn't. The Cyberlink blu ray and 3D advisor on my XPS L501X laptop tells me that;

1) Graphics card; Microsoft basic render driver - FAIL

2) Hardware dual video decoding capability for H.264, MPEG-2 and VC1 returned 'None' or FAIL

I have a NVIDIA GeForce GT435M graphics card installed, and info says that it is working correctly.

Any advice on fixing this please?
