Centrino - Is it the same as wifi?

I want to know if Centrino is like wifi. For instance, if I have a centrino laptop, can I drive all over the tri-state area while staying connected or would I have to be close to a wireless router for it to work.   I bbelive if I had a product that was wifi I have to be next to a wireless router.

So same question differnt way. If I have a centrino computer and I can go online wirelessly does that mean that my Wifi device can do the same? or is centrino better than wifi where it will be able to go online more fequestly.

Your help is appreciated.

centrino is a combination of a specific intel chipset, pentium-M processor, and 802.11 wireless card.  as with any other wifi card, you will need to be within range of a wireless hotspot, access point, or router.

if you need high-speed net access everywhere, check with your cell phone provider

all centrino is is a sticker.  Like above, just means you have certain components....essentially a gimick type scam from intel

Lets not ride this horse again,,,centrino is way more then a sticker,,if you think that you are fooling yourself, it is the combination of three things that work in harmony.....just like fire , you need 1)fuel 2)IGNITING source, 3) air. centriono is by far the new and improved intel chip set,  to make wireless internet easy, fast, and run cooler, and with lower watts, hence saving bat life....without centrino there is no life.

I apprciate the feedback.  If I check with my cell phone provider, I should be checking for a phone card that allows me to go on wirelessly?

Nopth the less, the capability of Centrino and Wifi are the same, Correct?

Yes, you have to check with your wireless provider for a card.  You'll also have to sign up for data service, expect to pay $40 or more per month on top of your regular cell charges.

Yes, the capability is the same.  Centrino includes wireless.

All I can agree with is Centrino's power saving capability.  Even if you use a different wireless card, the other 2 Centrino components are saving power.....
