Computer did not recognize New battery for Vostro 1510 and would not charge

i have tried two batteries from non-Dell supplier but the laptop did not recognize their existence and would not charge. Any thoughts.  Any solutions?

First, does the system properly detect the power adapter (go into the BIOS setup and make sure the adapter isn't listed as "unknown").  F2 at powerup.

If the adapter IS detected, check to make sure the contacts on the mainboard are in good shape.  If they are, then try a Dell battery (NOT a third party battery).

If the adapter IS NOT detected, either it or the mainboard  is faulty.

Here's the fix:  Put the computer to sleep.  Before you turn it back on, unplug the computer.  Once you see "resuming windows" (this is the wake up screen after sleep), plug the laptop back in. Problem solved. Everything has worked fine for me this way for a year.

It works just as well with a restart, but instead of seeing "resuming windows", wait until you see the desktop reappear before plugging back in.
