D600 - Display flickers twice long after undock

On my D600, the display flickers twice, several minutes after undock. I know it will flicker when changing from 1280x1024 to 1400x1050, and that happens normally, but several minutes later, it flickers twice. I don't recall this happening until sometime after I upgraded the BIOS to A05, but it didn't start happening immediately after the BIOS update - seems like it started 2 weeks after that. It's only a minor annoyance, because there are no other problems, but I'm wondering if a) anyone else has seen this, and b) could this be an indicator of some other hidden problem?

SteelSamurai:

Try timing the delay from the moment you undock until the flickering occurs. See if the time is exactly the same every time. What Operating System are you using? You may want to try downloading and installing the latest video driver available for your system from the Dell File Library. You should be able to find and download the Dell validated drivers for your system from the Dell File Library. Just go to our website at the following address:

http://support.dell.com/us/en/filelib/index.asp

Insert your system's service tag in the text box labeled "Enter your Service Tag" and click the "Go" button. You will be given a list of files and drivers specific to your system. If you do not have your Service Tag available you can simply choose your Dell system model from one of the drop down menus.

Rance,

Thanks for your reply. I haven't timed with a stopwatch yet, but I can tell you it isn't the same every time. It's been as short as 2 to 5 minutes, and as long as around 20-30 minutes. It is always 2 flickers, just less than a second apart. I just re-read my original post, and realized that I didn't mention something - this happens after I resume after undocking.

I have WinXP Pro SP1, with tons of updates from WindowsUpdate. I have the latest video drivers. It's not a major problem, but it is a bit unsettling.

I've got this too, but don't undock often enough to notice when it started.

I've upgraded from A03 to A05 and the problem is definitely there with A05, not sure if it was there with A03 or not.

I've got this "problem" too. Although it happens when I unplug the power-cord (don't have a dockingstation), and yes, I have the A05-BIOS. I have a theory though, it's the automatic function that lowers the screen brightness that kicks in, a second time. Because when I unplug the power cord the screen brightness go down to half, and if I change it to max and use it like that until the two flickers it's back to the "medium" setting.

For the record, mine does this too. I am on the A06 BIOS. I have seen it happen at somewhat random times, although it could have been some time after coming out of sleep or after the power cord was used??

For the record, my D600 has the same flicker issue--a double flicker, usually within a few minutes of startup. However, it happens sometimes after waking up from standby or hibernation. It does not seem to correlate with any particular activity.

Hey - i've been having a similar kinda thing happening with my d600, but it happens while its plugged in and not while its on the battery - something i think it might be is when the laptop is switching between changing and idle on the power.

One thing that did help reduce the problem for me was turning off the speed stepping thing on the graphics card called powerplay - theres a tab for it under the advanced setting thing from display settings so have a go with that and see if it helps :)

Hi,

I have also encountered this problem, it only happens when using battery rather than mains. When i phoned Dell i had issues with battery life and they thought that the screen flicker could be something to do with that. The new battery has improved the situation but the screen still flickers from time to time. I am not using a docking station and it seems to be entiley random when it happens.
