D6300 Brand new slow operation

Hi, I just received my Precision M6300 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7250 @2.00GHz 778MHz 2.00 GB of RAM. I had loaded my core programs, nothing unordinary, programs that I have run on other Dells with no problems. The problem is that the machine runs slow compared with my Dell Latitude D620 that had a slower processor. It also has an audible click now and then when the machine is sitting idle. Is this normal or is there any diagnostic programs that I can run to determine if the machine is running optimal? Thank you in advance.

Hi This could be an dual core issue, try to set the affiliation for each prozess which runs slower to only one processor (processes tab, right click affiliation) also you can try to run Speedswitch 1.52 which allows you to set the dynamical Tacting of the centrino CPUs to allways on highest tact. http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/index.html regards Christopher

Thanks Tanis64, I will give it a shot and see what happens, one thing that has helped a little is I turned off file indexing, dont know how that will affect me down the road but the few times I use search I can live with it.
