DC JACK - Inspiron 1150/4150

I am hoping a moderator or possibly an experienced Dell enthusiast can help me out with this question.

I have two laptops, both inspiron, one is a 1150 and the other a 4150. The 1150 the DC jack on the motherboard is completely gone. Broken Off.

The 4150 the DC jack is loose.

I have looked and want to buy from someone reputable, a new jack for both systems.

My first question is, I need to somehow cross reference the jack and find out if the same DC Jack will work on both motherboards.

Second question, where in the world can I locate a jack..(BESIDES EBAY). I want to order from a reputable company.

Any input or help is greatly appreciated.

The jacks are very different from each other. Finding the part in the US is probably going to be a wild goose chase - look for a dead board with a good socket (www.parts-people.com) might be one source.

If you live in Southeast China or Taiwan, you might find one - outside of there, I doubt it.

try to find a local computer service to re-solder the power socket, if they are still usable.

it is far less to buy a new mother board.

I don't know what's on the 4150, but the 1150 plug-socket combination is proprietary to Dell and is not generally available. You can substitute another Dell commonly available receptacle that uses the same pin footprint as the present round connector. The connectors this company sells are Hirose RP34 types and you can get a pair of these from www.Digikey.com for less than $10. The part numbers are: RP34-8SP-3SC and RP34-8R-3PDL. You'll also need three crimp contacts (part number RP34-SC-112) for the plug.

When you wire the triaxial cable from the 1150 power supply to the new plug, connect the negative (outer shield) to pin 1, the positive (inner shield) to pin 3, and the adapter identification signal line (center conductor) to pin 2. The pin numbers are embossed onto the connector. You'll need to turn the 1150's round hole into a square one.
I have done this on a 5150 and it worked great. I had to destroy the old receptacle and desolder the pins one at a time since I didn't have a functioning vacuum desoldering gun.

I'd like to know where this center pin goes next on the motherboard.  I can see that the bushing that connects the adapter identification signal line to the motherboard is totally loose and not connected to the internal trace.  If I knew where it went next I could barnacle the pin directly to this spot.  Any ideas on how I can get this information?
