DELL Inspiron Drivers and CHIPSET for XP

I have successfully installed XP Pro on my Dell Inspiron 1721.  Everything works, except I cannot find my Resource CD for the Chipset; and the one on the Dell Driver Download site appears to be the wrong one, as it is a R141246.exe Ricoh Chipset; thus my SM Bus Controller still sits there in the Device Manager with a yellow question mark.  I found the list for XP drivers for the Inspiron 1721 at: http://www.getpcmemory.com/drivers/download-dell-inspiron-1721-windows-xp-drivers/comment-page-1/    However they too listed the same R141246.exe Ricoh R5C833 Chipset Utility as the correct Chipset even for XP, but shouldn't it be an AMD Chipset?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1721 with a AMD Turion 64X2 Mobile TL-56 @ 1800Mhz.  I recently fired Vista, reformatted the Hard Drive, and installed XP Pro.  I found and installed all the XP drivers but the R141246 driver listed on the DELL Download site as CHIPSET, however it still left the SM Bus Controller with a yellow question mark.  I then tried the ATI 8-11_xp32_dd_70226.exe, hoping the correct chipset might be in there, but no such luck (graphics look good tho).  So via the Add and Remove in the Control panel, I removed all ATI drivers and tried the ATI 10-2_legacy_xp32-64_dd_ccc, but again no chipset driver for the SM Bus Controller there either.

I cannot find the Dell Resource CD that came with this laptop, and cannot seem to find the correct chipset download.  The Motherboard is a DELL ORT951 according to my PC Wizard 2010, which also tells me my chipset is an AMD RS690/RS690M. Isn't that chipset part of the 2_legacy_xp32-64_dd_ccc download?

Either way, I still have a Yellow Question Mark on the SM Bus Controller.  Do you know WHERE the correct Chipset can be downloaded for this Dell Inspiron 1721?  Or am I doing something wrong in the installation?

YES, YES that 10-6_xp32-64_sb - ATI South Bridge Driver fixed the problem!  :emotion-2:   I downloaded it from:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

There is no official AMD support for XP on this chipset.  There is however a workaround:

The Ricoh driver is for the card reader - not the chipset.  You still need chipset-level drivers for the system.

Do you know if the R141246 is the CORRECT chipset for the 1721, as it is listed as a Ricoh driver NOT an AMD driver?

Could that be the problem?

The crazy thing is the other day when I first reinstalled XP Pro, and was trying different drivers to get everything working, I actually got the SM Bus Controller working and was ONLY missing the Audio Drivers.  After a day and a half of frustration because I was unable to find an audio driver that worked with XP; I decided to start fresh, reinstall XP Pro.  I thought I saved that driver that had _bus in the title, but I cannot find it on my external hard drive.  That was before I found that site I mentioned with a list of XP drivers:  http://www.getpcmemory.com/drivers/download-dell-inspiron-1721-windows-xp-drivers/comment-page-1/  including the correct audio driver.
