DELL XPS 1530 Confused and Scared

Hi Everyone,

I have placed an order for DELL XPS 1530 on 14th August 2008. The Account Manager appointed by DELL was very keen and enthusiastic about me paying the money by Credit Card. And i did make the payment. I wanted to confirm that the Bill is made on my company's name and my order status. I have read many reviews in various sites about DELL XPS 1530. I am scared with the user reviews. This is going to be first DELL laptop purchased for our company. I thought this is going to be good start. Did i forget to mention my Account Manager never replies to my emails neither her Manager replied to my email, when ever i call she excuses by saying she will call me back in 10 minutes. But alas no luck yet. Yesterday i called the Customer Care and after talking to 3 persons i got the reply that there is shortage of computer parts.  I dont know yet if my laptop will be delivered on scheduled date.

I am depressed of the fact that Dell being such a large corporate, it's employees are seem not accountable for their actions. How are they going to do business if they never care for their customers and their problems which is the result of their production issues or policy issues. I am just holding my hands and praying for luck. I dont want to miss this product if it is as good as it appears in CNET reviews.

Dell being a large corporation has many different departments so there will always be communications problems, but I have found them to be very responsive, but sometimes slow. I just took delivery of a XPS M1530 completely loaded and after two days use I noticed a defect in the screen coating, but after a call to tech service, they have resolved the issue in record time, a complete new unit on the way. My company uses Dell exclusive for the past 8 years and these systems have been bulletproof for the most part.

I would encourage you to wait patiently and you will be happy....a bit of wisdom....all Dell techs are working to make use happy, but patience and a calm nature will always go a lot further than intimidation...

Hope that helps........Woodyman

rohim,

 relax.  If the laptop is not what you want, send it back.  There are more important things to worry about.

a month ago I ordered my xps1530.  another poster suggested a lattitude - I went with the xps1530, graphics woes and all (but I did pay for the 3 year warranty).  There were a number of reasons for this, but I'm happy so far.  I am not a gamer, I am a hard core developer, we'll see how the relationship works out.  a couple of notes:

- if you like headphones, the front jack is annoying;

- only 3 usb ports, in weird places.  I'm accustomed to 4 in the rear, so it's an adjustment;

- glossy screen (Dell, what were you thinking?????);  but I'm getting over it

plus notes:  it screams. I'm sure the latitude is fast, but I have a 10 fold improvement in build times.

feel better?

If this system is for company use, you'd be much better off with a Latitude, which will come with US-based support.

The XPS and Inspiron lines are consumer-grade systems with consumer-level support.

I recently received excellent customer service from Dell when I had problems with my XPS 1330M. (The third Dell in my household)

After a long time on the phone, an engineer was sent round the next day and sorted the problem by replacing the DVD drive.

At all times both the technician on the phone and the service engineer were extremely helpful and resolved the issue quickly.

Perhaps there are communication problems in the production department, but I think you'll be happy with their customer service once you have your computer.

Hi Everyone, Thank you very much for your response. I am really motivated. I will just wait for the new laptop. I would like to know more about the XPS 1530 series. I request everyone for comments, experiences about DELL XPS 1530 as this is my first DELL laptop. I hope this brings a new relationship with DELL. Good Luck DELL. Please suggest me for the best laptop available from DELL for a Developer point of view. Thanks in advance. Regards

It's rather late to be asking a question like that Rohim, after you've placed an order for a XPS M1530?

I have a 1530 and I confirm it's OK. My problems are:

  1. There is no SPDIF so all I can get is analogue stero through the FRONT 3.5mm jack. This beggers belief from a machine with HDMI (which my amp does not support), BD, 2 remotes and a TV tuner. Multimedia pah.
  2. The webcam runs at 1fps at min resolution and won't send pics via FTP.
  3. The screen is so shiny you must work in a darkened room - unless you can pretend it's the webcam working ;-)

So I use it now as a boring work machine. It is quite fast so your boss should be happy with your purchase.

BTW, here in Australia, Dell support is non-existent. Hardware warrenty isn't "support". Reading online, I was under the impression that Dell support was the best and that they would come to your home just to help you insert a CD if needed. That's why they're know as Granny's choice. Bollox.

OK, back to work. Good luck.
