DELL XPS 17 (L702x) does it support hardware based virtualization?

HI All,

I have just purchased and received a DELL XPS 17 (L702x) with an I7-2860QM cpu, which supports hardware based virtualization which supports VT-x ajd VY-d, butt it is not turned on (vmware workstation 8 reports this).  I have checked the bios (virtualization enabled) and I have run MS Hardware_Assisted VIrtualuzation Detection Tool (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/configure-bios.aspx), and this also reports that it is off - how do I turn this on?

Thanks,

Ozkame

VT is not just the CPU but also the chipset.

If its available it will be in the CMOS Setup.

Dell have enabled vt-d, but disabled/crippled VTX in the chipset deliberatelly to prevent the XPS 17 from being used as a "Virtualisation Platform"

I do not understand why - potentially to force more people to buy Precision notebooks - which have the same chipsets, but support both VTX & VT-D
