DELL XPS M170 LAPTOP WILL NOT TURN ON!!!!!
HI I HAVE A DELL XPS M170 LAPTOP. WHILE USING IT POWERED ITSELF DOWN. WHEN I TRY TO TURN IT BACK ON THE POWER LED COMES ON FOR 2-3 SECONDS AND THEN GOES OUT, NO DISPLAY, NO FANS, NOTHING.THE LED ON THE THE POWER ADAPTER IS LIT AND THE BATTERY TEST LIGHT WORKS. I TRIED AN EXTERNAL MONITOR, NOTHING. I TRIED USING JUST THE BATTERY AND THEN JUST THE POWER ADAPTER, NOTHING. I SWAPPED OUT THE RAM, NOTHING. IS THERE ANY WAY TO TEST THE COMPUTER?(BUT PROBABLY NOT BECAUSE I CAN'T EVEN GET TO THE DELL SCREEN OR ANY SCREEN FOR THAT MATTER) I ALSO DISCONNECTED EVERYTHING FROM THE MOTHERBOARD AND RECONNECTED TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY LOOSE CONNECTIONS. ANY IDEAS TO WHAT MIGHT CAUSE THIS? THANKS MONTE!!!!!

Hi monte74,
I suggest that you completely shut the system down, remove the battery and disconnect the ac adapter, press and hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds. Now connect only the ac adapter and wait for 30 seconds and turn on the system.
In case the system does not turn on, I suspect the mother board is faulty. Please send me a private message of the service tag to check if the system is under the warranty to help you further.
I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.
I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.
Thanks and Regards,
Sujatha K
