Dell 90 WHr 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery

:emotion-7:  I recently purchased the battery listed in subject line. At first is held out for hours but, now it seems to drain a lot faster within two hours at best. Can someone tell me what the issue might be?. :emotion-7:

Hi cmaj129,

A notebook battery is considered a consumable product, and performance will gradually degrade as the battery is used. For this reason, Dell portable computer batteries carry the lesser of either a 1-year limited warranty or the length of the limited warranty for the Dell computer with which the battery is shipped.

Lithium Ion (LiOn) batteries for notebooks than can provide between 1.5 to 4.0 hours of battery life. Listed below are common battery sizes and an estimate of how long a computer can run under typical operating conditions.

• 4 Cell Battery: 1.5 to 2.0 hours

• 6 Cell Battery: 2.5 to 3.0 hours

• 9 Cell Battery: 3.5 to 4.0 hours

The actual battery life will vary depending on the battery size, computer configuration, and how the computer is used.

Factors that affect battery life are Processor speed, CD, DVD, CD-RW and hard drive access frequency, LCD brightness, Power management, and the Battery age.

Lets try few steps to increase the battery life:

1. Update the BIOS to the latest version available at the Dell support site.

2. Run MS Fix on battery for performance issues using the below given link:

go.microsoft.com

3. Run the custom scan on battery using PC check from Dell Support Center.

Do reply with the results.

you can install a battery monitor software like  batterycare from cnet, it shows the current capacity and wear level.
