Dell INSPIRON 1545 WILL NOT BOOT UP

My daughters computer will not boot up.  When you power it up, the cursor blinks and thats about it.  She made a backup DVD and I have tried to put boot off of the CD/DVD drive by forcing this drive to boot first in the bios setup.  I get the message  "No bootable devices- strike F1 to retry boot"  F2  for setup utility and F5 to run onboard diagnostics....   F1 does returns to the same message,  F2 returns you to the Bios settings, and F5 starts the diagnostics...

So... any thoughts on this subject...  ofcourse this happend one year after the purchase.. maybe theres a built in failure timer.

Run a complete diagnostic - F12 at powerup.

Could be a failed hard drive. Use your original operating system disk to boot--not a backup--or a Startup Repair disk if you made one. Run the diagnostics with the extended hard drive test. That doesn't run automatically. You must specifically select it. If you don't have the OS disk, you can request a set of disks here: support.dell.com/.../backupcd_form

Make sure you run the extended - not just the quick - hard drive test, since that's likely what's wrong.
