Dell Inspiron 1520 display issue

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520. I can tell that the laptop is working by connecting it to an external display. When I turn it on the display flashes orange and goes blank. I can shine a light on it and see what it says. I do not know if it is the back light or the invertor. Has anyone had this issue?

If I use the FN F8 key to switch to external or onboard the display will flash orange and go blank again.
