Dell Inspiron 1720 Display Problems

I received a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop with a standard display resolution of 1440 by 900. The resolution is horrible and I have tried to fix it by adjusting the dpi, downloaded whatever was available for the Intel processor from the Dell website. I can't seem to get a good display compared to other Dell laptops I own.

 

Has anybody else had this problem with a Dell Inspiron 1720?

I reinstalled windows a few months back and had this same issue after doing so.  The only thing that I could get to correct the problem was to download an ATI graphics driver off of the dell website.  It was one of the optional dirvers listed after I entered my service tag.  This corrected it immediatley.
