Dell Inspiron M5010 - 8 beeps

Hi all,

I have an M5010 laptop, and now when I turn it on the screen is black and I get 8 beeps that repeat.

I did some reading on this, and tried the "reflow" method on the video chip - but this did not work. I used to be able to get external video to work, but that's not working now either.

If I believe what I read on the internet, 8 beeps is a display problem - I think I used to get 7 beeps before I did the reflow method, which indicates a video problem.

So what next? If I replace the motherboard, will that fix the problem?

Any other advice?

Many thanks in advance!

Dave

Hi - yes, positive it's 8 beeps. Not sure what video cable you're talking about - I pretty much disassembled the whole laptop to do the reflow repair, but I don't know which cable you mean - I wish I had a diagram to show me which cables were video related.

Ok - I took it apart again, and made sure the video cable is connected - it is. Same thing. So it's either the motherboard, or the actual display. Either way - probably not worth fixing - bums me out.
