Dell Inspiron M5040 Laptop Setup Help & Upgrade Info.
I just recently got my Dell Inspiron M5040 laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium OA) working again (through the use of a Toshiba HDD that my PlayStation3 would no longer read), and was wondering if anyone knew of any drivers or updates that I should get? I've installed drivers for the ethernet controller, network controller, and graphics as they were needed, and done all of Windows updates. Also, I'm wondering why the laptop doesn't want to start up? It will load the bar under the "Dell Inspiron" logo, go to a grey screen and just sit there UNLESS I go to the Setup menu and reboot it from there. I didn't expect it to work perfectly since it is a different, smaller HDD. Another problem is not being able to disable the TouchPad. It isn't even registered in the hardware (that I can find). I tried downloading the Alps driver from Dell, nothing happened. The Pad works, but I use a wireless mouse and accidently touch the Pad when typing frequently. One last question: What can I upgrade on this laptop, if anything, and what would the best upgrades be? RAM, HDD, CPU? I've heard those are the only things that are upgrade-able. The Motherboard is Model 05X5JT (CPU 1), Chipset Vendor AMD, Chipset Model A40/A50 Series FCH, Chipset Revision 00. CPU is AMD C-60, Cores: 2, Threads: 2, Name: AMD C-60, Package:Socket FT1 BGA, Technology: 40nm, 1000Mhz/1Ghz. RAM DDR3 3Gb. I sincerely appreciate any help.
