Dell Inspiron Mini 10

Hey there!

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron Mini 10, it is less than 30 days old and despite having a little trouble with the right click function I was very, very happy with it!

Until last night.

I was watching something on the BBC iplayer when suddenly the screen went black-my laptop had switched itself off. I was very confused, but pulled it into my lap and tried to turn it back on again. It wouldn't. In fact, it would only turn back on when I unplugged it, removed and the replaced the battery. I used it this morning, but whenever I plugged it in to charge, if it was already running, it would switch itself off without warning like it had done last night, or, if it was switched off, it simply wouldnt turn on until I unplugged it again.

Now the battery has died and it's refusing to charge, as if the laptp refuses to register that it's even plugged in. Sometimes the poer light will show when it's plugged in and off, but current;y it' just kind of dead. This, as you can imagine, is very upsetting and frustrating because it is so new.

I cannot get a hold of Dell's technical support team through any method and I have to confess, I'm not very brigth when it comes to things like this so does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? I'm a little lost?

Thank you!

The same happened to my  Mini 10.

I contacted the tech support hotline in Germany (three times in the meantime) and they told me that the battery has to be replaced and they promised, to send one.

This is about on month ago and I didn't get any replacement, yet.

I'm about to return the whole machine to Dell to get my money back :-(

I have had a different problem with my Mini 10 a blue screen issue that could not be resolved.

i was accused of all sorts of things in my efforts to have my computer replaced as it was totally unusable and even the technical repair person they sent out was arguing with the telephone tech support. It is i believe beilng replaced still waiting some 2 weeks later to have a brand new computer replaced. Dell customer serviceris disgraceful and if i could get my money back i would. a very sad state of affairs for a multinational company that people trust. i will never recommend them!!

A little update: I received a new battery yesterday, but the problem remains ... :-{

Next step:

Follwing the proposal of Dell's german tech support I updated the BIOS Version from A00 to A04, just to make sure it's not a bios issue.

I considered it to be quite unlikely, since the machine worked fine for two months and suddenly didn't charge the battery anymore. And so it is: no charging, also with the new BIOS.

Finally I'll call tech service again to have the motherboard repaired today.

Well after a week or so they emailed me and told me that they needed to replace the charger and that it would arrive on Thursday if I provided the details.

Thursday rolled around and they emailed in the afternoon saying actually, they're not going to deliver a charge someone is going to pick it up on Friday to replace the motherboard. That'll be another week.

How they know it's the motherboard without me trying the new charge first I don't know. I barely understand the emails they send me as they are poorly typed.

My dad has promised to buy me a new full-sized laptop for christmas from Dell, I may politely decline and go somwhere better. Am really not impressed with Del''s poor organisation skills.

They made it!

Dell picked up my mini last tuesday and returned it on friday with a new mother board and everything's working fine now (again).

Hoping this will last a little longer :emotion-2:
