Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 not turning on
I've had my Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 for about 2 1/2 years now and it just suddenly stopped working. If I try to turn it on the screen remains blank. The power light illuminates for about 7 seconds then turns off. Nothing seems to happen no beeps or any other kind of flashing light. I've tried reading the manual and can't seem to find out what's wrong with it, let alone know how to fix it. I hope someone can help.
Thanks

Hi lissy_88,
Welcome to the Community,
If system does not stay on, it will be difficult to isolate the issue, as we will not be able to run diagnostics and also beep codes can be used as diagnostic indicator but your system is not emitting any beep sound. Try releasing flea power .To release flea power, disconnect AC adapter, remove battery, press and hold power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect battery, AC adapter and turn on system.
If issue persists, try connecting AC adapter to a different power outlet, then try turning on system with only AC adapter connected (remove battery), if it still does the same then it could either be an issue with the AC adapter or the motherboard. If possible try a different AC adapter.
Let me know how it goes.
Thank You

Hi Roshan
What you said is true I've googled this issue a million times and nothing seems to help as I can't get the computer to stay on, but was hoping the experts might be able to help.
So I tried releasing the "flea power" but it still doesn't turn on. Just the same, the light stays on for about 7 seconds then nothing. I don't know anyone with an adapter I can check it on
I think there is a bit of an issue with the AC adapter. I've had some problems with it for quite a while its a bit loose but so long as its positioned just right it works. The power light goes on to show the batteries charging so although I think I need to buy a new adapter, I assumed that it wasn't the main issue.
Thanks

Hi lissy_88,
Before buying a replacement AC adapter, if possible take the system to a local repair shop and just get it tested with a different AC adapter. If it turns out to be an issue with the AC adapter, replacing AC adapter would be much cheaper, then having to replace motherboard.

Hi Roshan
Thanks very much I shall take it to a repair shop this week and see if they can test it for me.
So if it turns out the AC adapter is working does that mean there's definitely a problem with the motherboard? The thing is, I don't want to spend a heap of money on a laptop that only cost me $600.

Hi lissy_88,
If AC Adapter is fine then other components which could possibly cause this issue would be, DC- In Cable (AC adapter connector port with cable) which connects AC adapter connector port to system board or the system board itself. Replacing DC-In cable is not expensive but if system board needs to replaced, then cost of repair will be high.
For cost of repair you may contact Expired Warranty Service at 1800-624-9896(US region).
Thank You
