Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (1011)

Go to the Mini10v downloads page and click on "Driver install instructions". The gist of it is this order for audio:

a. Dell System Software (expand the System Utilities category). Restart.

b. Next install the Intel Mobile Chipset driver (expand the Chipset category). Restart.

c. Install the audio driver (expand the Audio category).

Did your system come with XP or Windows 7 starter?

If XP follow jimco's advice.

Ughhhh no luck, it said "Error Code: 0xE0000227"

That "Error Code: 0xE0000227" is a new one to me. I googled it and found it is specific to Realtec. Dell doesn't use much Realtec so I am not as familiar with its foibles as I am the usual audio hardware & drivers. Some advice on the internet was to delete the Microsoft UAA driver and then install the Realtec.

What I would try first is this. Go to the Device Manager and see if the Realtec is listed. If not look for a generic listing for the audio controller. It might even just be a PCI Device with a question mark next to it. Right click on it and choose to update it. Don't let Windows look for the update. Browse to whereever you unpacked the Realtec driver files and point the updater to the WDM folder. It should be this path:

c:\Dell\drivers\R213951\WDM

If that doesn't install the driver then you might have to use some suggestions from googling unless bacillus has a suggestion.

Look under "System devices" for a PCI device with yellow mark and if you find it update it to the WDM folder as described above.

That 'Audio device on high definition audio bus" might or might not be the audio controller. It might just be the HDMI audio driver which is usually listed that way, as an audio device on the HD audio bus.

The PCI is there but no yellow mark, is there just a completely different audio i can use for my mini?

You can't replace the internal Realtec audio system with a different internal one. You can add an external usb audio system that will work like the internal one but will not play through the computer's built-in speakers.

I'm sorry I cannot help you with that. I have no knowledge of anything except audio. But it seems to me you could fix that other hard drive by using PC Restore as described on page 42 of the Mini10v Setup Guide. If the video was working when you got the computer then PC Restore will fix it. (If that was the original hard drive and if the restore partition has not been deleted.)

Before you give up on the current hard drive why not try the tip to disable then uninstall the UAA Bus driver. I have seen that tip posted in several places -- don't know if it will help but maybe it is worth a shot. Click for instructions starting with post 5.

OMG, Jim I've been trying to remove the audio codec I showed you in my one screenshot, rofl, i googled it several times before using this thread and it was driving me insane because it wouldnt uninstall.... NOWWWW i found a post saying where it was, "system devices", rofl!!!! I finally got it working! :) ty so much for helping me it's greatly appreciated!! <3

Dell Mini 10v (1011) and was pre-installed with Windows 7 Starter Edition.  I am attempting to install Windows XP Pro - the only issue I have had is this audio problem.

I have followed the directions in this topic with no luck. 

The closest I have come is by disabling/uninstalling of the "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio" under the "System devices"  and then installing the driver. After driver install it now comes up and no longer has an exclamation by the Audio Device - but 'found new hardware' pops up and asks for a driver for "MEDIA" that is located under the "Sound, video and game controllers" as an "unknown device".

I cannot find any driver associated that will work - unknown device.

Anyone have an idea where I can find a driver for "MEDIA"?  I have tried audio WDM drivers, etc with no luck.
